The Portuguese Foreign Ministry Delegate Visited GDUFS

On 10th December 2015, the faculties of the Research Institute for International Studies of GDUFS received Dr. Duarte Bué Alves, the diplomat from the Portuguese Foreign Ministry. Fang Fanquan, the Vice President of GDUFS; Wu Junfeng, the Deputy Director of the Research Institute for International Studies; Yang Ke, the Dean of the Faculty of European Language and Culture, and Zhou Wenxv, a Portuguese lecturer attended the meeting.

Dr. Alves first expressed his gratitude for inviting him to GDUFS and talked about the main aim of this trip to Guangzhou. The Portuguese government has reached an agreement with the Chinese government about setting up a Portuguese General Consulate in Guangzhou. He said that GDUFS is the most relevant institution in Guangdong Province and hoped that the two sides will have more projects and cooperation in the future. He will visit GDUFS again after the Spring Festival; by then, he will be the General Consular of the Portuguese General Consulate in Guangzhou.

Vice President Fang Fanquan introduced GDUFS briefly to Dr. Alves and explained the teaching of Portuguese at GDUFS. In 2007, the Portuguese major was established and in 2009, the major began to recruit students. There are 20 students every year and 7 qualified professors (including two Portuguese teachers). The Faculty of European Languages and Cultures has cooperated with a lot of famous foreign universities such as University of Lisbon in Portugal, University of Macau and University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He also mentioned that the graduates of the Portuguese major have a high employment rate in recent years as well.

At the end of the meeting, they exchanged presents to show their kindness and their hope to cooperate more with each other in the future.
