On September 23, Brent White, President of Golden Gate University (GGU) in the United States, and Charles Wang, Vice President for International Affairs at GGU, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao met with the delegation. The two sides held wide-ranging discussions on topics such as joint discipline development, joint education programs, and long-term cooperation between the two universities.

Highlight from the Meeting

Vice President Shen welcomed the delegation and gave a comprehensive introduction to GDUFS’s distinctive educational features, disciplinary strengths, and plans for internationalization. He noted that GDUFS has outstanding strengths in foreign language disciplines and a solid foundation in internationalized education. GGU, he said, has long specialized in practice-oriented higher education tailored to the workplace, focusing on nurturing talent in emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, so the two universities complement each other well. He expressed the hope that this meeting would serve as an opportunity to consolidate the outcomes of their previous discussions, put cooperation projects into practice, and keep expanding multidisciplinary and multidimensional cooperation. He also hoped that, drawing on the geographical advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the two universities would jointly develop high-caliber, application-oriented international talent for mutual benefit and shared development.

Brent White introduced GGU’s history, discipline structure, and plans for internationalization. He said GGU is a leading U.S. university in education for working professionals. Drawing on industry resources in Silicon Valley, it has built strong programs in fields such as artificial intelligence, and its educational model is closely aligned with market demand for talent. He added that GGU recognizes GDUFS’s academic strengths and its deep experience in internationalized education, and places great importance on cooperation with GDUFS. GGU is ready to advance joint education programs, faculty and student exchanges, joint research, and other forms of cooperation, and to build an international talent development system together with the university.

Charles Wang highlighted what sets GGU’s education for working professionals apart. He said the university focuses on helping white-collar workers and senior corporate executives enhance their professional skills, and that GGU ranks among the leading U.S. institutions in terms of graduate employment outcomes and salaries. He also proposed new ideas for joint education programs, including cooperation on Silicon Valley immersion programs and programs designed to support the career development of senior professionals.

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Institute of Continuing Higher Education, and other relevant departments were also present at the meeting.
