Highlight from the Meeting
Vice President Lan extended a warm welcome to Gina Andreadi and her delegation, and expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic and the Consulate General of Greece in Guangzhou for their strong support for GDUFS’s educational undertakings and the development of the Greek language program. He pointed out that this donation is not only a strong support for the university’s international talent cultivation, but also a full demonstration of both sides’ sincere hope to jointly promote China-Greece language and cultural exchange and deepen mutual learning between civilizations. He stated that GDUFS serves as a key base in South China for international talent cultivation, with its Greek language program forming an integral part of this mission. Since its establishment, the Greek language program has always aimed to cultivate high-caliber talents with a solid language foundation, a good understanding of Greek national conditions, and the competence to undertake international cooperation tasks in various fields. These funds will be directly allocated to curriculum optimization, cultural resource development, faculty and student exchanges, and project expansion for the Greek language program. This will give students greater opportunities to engage with the Greek language and culture in authentic contexts, helping to strengthen connections and mutual understanding between young people in the two countries. Following this donation, the university will further deepen its long-term cooperation with the Consulate General of Greece in Guangzhou, make tangible progress in discipline development, and enhance the quality of talent cultivation, making the Greek language program an important window for the youth from China and Greece to engage in exchanges and for mutual learning between the two civilizations.
Gina Andreadi thanked GDUFS for the warm reception and spoke highly of its accomplishments in internationalized education. She specifically mentioned that the talent cultivation of the Department of Greek Language has yielded remarkable results, and GDUFS students’ diligence in learning has left a deep impression on her. She also stated that, with great emphasis on promoting the Greek language and culture in South China, the Consulate General hopes to take this donation as an opportunity to expand cooperation into academic seminars, teacher training, economic and trade cooperation, and broader cultural and people-to-people exchanges. She hoped that these efforts would help the two sides jointly cultivate more young talents who are familiar with the Greek language and culture, understand the national conditions of both countries, and possess a global perspective, thereby making new contributions to facilitating cultural and people-to-people exchanges and friendly cooperation between China and Greece. She added that the Consulate General would continue to support the development of the Department of Greek Language at the university, and help enhance students’ employment competitiveness, while looking forward to promoting face-to-face communication between young people from the two countries to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.
