Delegation from the University of Reading Visits GDUFS

On the morning of September 11, Professor May Tan-Mullins, Provost and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Reading Malaysia and Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement – ASEAN) at the University of Reading, led a delegation on a visit to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Lan Hongjun met with the delegation in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides held cordial discussions on deepening collaboration on existing programs and exploring new models for joint education programs.

Highlight from the Meeting

Vice President Lan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He briefly introduced GDUFS’s educational profile and reviewed the history of jointly delivered education programs between the two universities. He noted that since the partnership was established in 2012, the two universities have jointly delivered the MA in English Language Education, which has produced more than 500 graduates. This year, the School of Business, the School of Mathematics and Statistics, the School of Public Administration, and the School of English for International Business at GDUFS have launched new undergraduate-to-master’s progression programs with the University of Reading, which have seen strong enrollment and attracted high-caliber students. He expressed the hope that the visit would serve as an opportunity to further advance practical cooperation between the two universities in such areas as faculty and student exchanges, joint education programs, and academic and research collaboration.

Professor May Tan-Mullins thanked GDUFS for its warm hospitality and provided an update on recent developments at the University of Reading and its Malaysia campus. She said that the University of Reading attaches great importance to its partnership with GDUFS and that the two universities share closely aligned approaches to talent development and visions for future development. On behalf of Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, she warmly invited the leadership of GDUFS to attend the University of Reading’s centenary celebrations and, at an appropriate time, to visit its campuses in the United Kingdom and Malaysia to gain a first-hand understanding of learning environments there. She expressed the hope that, building on the existing partnership, the two universities would further expand and deepen their cooperation and work together to enhance the quality of internationalized education.

Representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the International College, and the Faculty of English Language and Culture were also present at the meeting.

On the morning of September 12, at the invitation of the University of Reading, a GDUFS delegation led by Vice President Lan Hongjun traveled to Beijing, where they met with Professor Robert Van de Noort, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Reading, Dr Caroline Baylon, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), and other representatives of the University. The GDUFS delegation also attended an event marking the University of Reading’s centenary. Vice President Lan Hongjun extended his warm congratulations to the University of Reading on its centenary. He noted that the two universities enjoy a long history of cooperation and a strong friendship. Building on the solid foundation of their longstanding partnership, he expressed the hope that the two institutions would further expand and deepen cooperation in talent cultivation, scientific research, faculty and student exchanges, and cultural exchange.

Vice-Chancellor Robert Van de Noort spoke highly of GDUFS’s achievements in education and talent development. He noted the significance of the partnership between the two universities and expressed the hope that they would further explore the potential for cooperation and build a broader platform for high-quality collaboration.

Following the meeting, the GDUFS delegation attended the University of Reading’s China Centenary Alumni Reception in Beijing.
