World Bank Economists visited GDUFS

May 19th, 2019: Dr. Martin Rama, the senior adviser of thechief economist office of the World Bank of South Asia; Dr. Li Yue, senior economist; and Dr. Robert Carlmichael Beyer, economist, visited GDUFS and participated the world bank serieslectures. SUI Guangjun, the Chairman of the University Board, met the guests in the VIP Hall in the Administration Building. The two sides had a discussion in terms of strengthening cooperation and buildingathink tank.

SUI gave a brief introduction of the university, pointing out these prestigious lecture makes it easier to groom international talents, an important concern of the Central Leadership and Ministry of Education. It helps the university to launch cooperation with international organizations like World Bank; arouses the students’ interests to learn about international organizations and international governance; and creates more opportunities to work or be trained in World Bank for students who are running international governance programs.

 

Martin Rama believes that World Bank and GDUFS have similar goals: world development. The World Bank is not just about spreading money, but also knowledge, and our university is devoted to developing international talents with a global view. He hoped the World Bank will play a more important role in the process for developing our country to overcome poverty, and promoting growth in the economy, city infrastructure, and climate. As the think tanks of our university is becomes more mature, he hoped there will befurther interactionsin the future.

There were two lectures in the world bank series: the Chinese international governance advanced forum on May 19th and the report of the 2019 South Asia-East Asia economic research results.
