North Campus, January 18th2019: Ishizuka Hideki, the new Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou, visited GDUFS. SUI Guangjun, Chairman of University Board, met the guests in the VIP Hall of the North Campus. Both sides exchanged views on the construction of the Japanese major at GDUFS and cooperation between GDUFS and Japanese universities.

SUI Guangjun expressed his welcome for the first visit of the Consul General and made a brief introduction of GDUFS. He said that GDUFS Japanese major was established in 1970, and it has developed rapidly in recent years. Professional training has covered three levels: bachelor, masters and doctorate degrees, which play an important role in South China, particularly concerning national Japanese education and Japanese study. Besides the construction of its foreign language majors, GDUFS has developed rapidly in global governance; legislative research; think – tank construction; Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao research; and achieved remarkable results. GDUFS attaches great important to international projects. Its Japanese major has established cooperative relations with many famous Japanese universities. Each year, GDUFS sends students to Japan to exchange and study and also receives Japanese students to study at GDUFS. He hoped that the visit of the Consul General would enhance exchange and cooperation between GDUFS and Japanese universities and promote friendly contacts between people of the two countries.
Ishizuka Hideki expressed his approval about the construction of Japanese major at GDUFS and achievements in the spread of Japanese traditional culture. He also expressed his gratitude to GDUFS’ contribution to promoting friendly exchanges between Chinese and Japanese students. He mentioned that 2018 marked the 40th anniversary of the Sino – Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship, and the friendship between the two countries’ people was deep. He hoped that both sides enhanced cooperation, broadened cooperative universities and continue to strengthen their friendship. The Consul General of Japan in Guangzhou was willing to help with the construction of GDUFS’ Japanese major and the exchange of GDUFS teachers and students in Japan.

After the meeting, Ishizuka Hideki visited a Japanese tea house accompanied by relevant members of the Faculty of Japanese Languages and Cultures. KE Xiaohua, Chief of the office of International Cooperation and Exchange; CHEN Duoyou, Dean of the Faculty of Japanese Languages and Cultures; and CAI Hong, Dean of Institute for International Education, also attended the meeting.
