About May Day

Every May 1st is May Day, also known as International Workers' Day or Labor Day. Usually surrounding this day is a three-day holiday in China called the May Day holiday. There is a historical origin of the holiday which is in honor of the workers back in the 19th century.

As the wheel of history continues to turn, the meaning of May Day remains, yet it is promoting more modernized values through the century-old celebration.In fact, as the result of the rapid economic development,today’s people in China tend to have an enjoyablefamily trip during the holiday – just like the other major holidays.Therefore,major travel destinations like parks,places of interest, even entertainment centers like karaoke,see sharp increasesofvisitor numbers.

Although the spirit of workers fighting for their own rights is not as infectious as it was during the Industrial Revolution, as the working condition of workers nowadays has improved dramatically,still, we can cherish the value of hard workwhile celebrating and enjoying the holiday. That’s because we owe our happy life today to many people’s hard work.From this perspective, we should work hard to earn our own happy life, as well as be thankful to those who work hard for us,like:

Our teachers who spend much time showing us the way to knowledge and wisdom.

The administration staff who devote themselves to ensuring the university runs well.

The security staff who make the campus a safe and warm place.

The supporting staff without whom our life would be a mess.
