2016 GDUFS Sports Meeting was Held on South Campus

On November 18th 2016, the GDUFS Sports Meeting and Winter Sunny Long-distance Running were held in the stadium on the South Campus. Students as well as teaching and administrative staff from both south and north campuses gathered together, and welcomed a series of sporting events in high spirits. With the rifle shot cracking out, led by Vice President of GDUFS, FANG FanQuan, LIU HaiChun and JIAO FangTai, several phalanxes, made up of the representatives of staff and students from different faculties, started to run along the playground racetrack, arousing audiences’ passion from the benches.

The opening speech was delivered by Vice President JIAO FangTai, who introduced the accomplishments the athletes of our university have achieved during the past year, emphasizing the sportsmanship of students FENG ShanShan and LIN XiYu from GDUFS in 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. He also clarified that our university not only attached importance to holding the sports events successfully, but also paying attention to the innovation of activities. He said that with the strong support of the Alumni Association, our university would hold “Sports Carnival”, enabling students and teachers to enjoy the charms of sports, show their youthful vigor and feel sportsmanship in events. After that, Vice President FANG FanQuan announced the start of the 2016 GDUFS Sports Meeting.

To celebrate the opening of the Sports Meeting, UC dance team, Taekwondo Association and Nun-chucks Association presented wonderful performances to the audience.

First, Chinese-style dance of UC was showed, which was a combination of solo and group dance, fully embodying innovation spirit of students from GDUFS.

After vigorous performances by the Taekwondo Association and Nun-chucks Associations, a special show named “ I ❤GDUFS” and performed by the gymnastics and cheerleading teams started. With a dynamic melody running around the stadium, about 400 students and teachers danced together, after which they adjusted their steps and finally stopped their formation at “I ❤GDUFS”. This reflected the theme of this Sports Meeting “I Love GDUFS”, which brought the whole opening ceremony to a climax and winning warm applause. A participant from the School of Business – Lin, a sophomore – said: “We started to prepare for this show at the beginning of this term. The last three weeks we spent every Thursday afternoon rehearsing. Although it was tiring, it was worth it, especially after witnessing the satisfying result.”

It was reported that to enrich students’ life and to show the wonderful characteristics of GDUFS, not only did our university hold the Sports Meeting, but also held activities such as “Sports Carnival”, “Voting for Healthy Star”, “Sunny Sports Photography Competition”.
