Wandering through the campus of GDUFS, we are absolutely immersed in the charming scene. The trees, the grass, the flowers, the river… all the scenery inside our eyes enjoy a long history and have witnessed the great changes and development of our university. They not only told us generations of alumni’s stories of the past, but also keep us company today.

The main university road

The Lovesick River.

From the very beginning, the Lovesick River was called YunXi River, which is also its official name. The name “YunXi” refers to the fact that its source isin the Baiyun Mountain as a stream. As time went by, it turned into a river, which flows slowly across our campus from north to south. The origin of the name “Lovesick” can be traced back to the last century in the 1970s and 80s. Due to the fact that it separates the male and female dormitories, like the Milky Way separates NiuLang and ZhiNv, it was called Lovesick River from then on.

In the past, the Students’ Union organized river dredging work every year to improve the environment of the river. Numerous students jumped into the river to clean up the weeds and mud. They immersed themselves in the joy of labor. These are memorable experiences for the old generations, which makes the river an important existence in their school life. Nowadays, the dredging work is still of great importance for the environmental protection of our campus.

Beside the river, many stories happen every day, from the past to present. Every morning, the sound of reading echoes around the river, which has been a tradition in our campus. In addition, love stories have also taken place by the riverside. Some couples meet each other beside the river when they are relaxing. For instance, a girl came across her boyfriend when she was reading a book along the river. He recognized the book she was reading and found that they were interested in the same author. From then on, they gradually became close friends and eventually fell in love with each other.

The Lovesick River, flowing from the past to the future, is witnessing the development of GDUFS and is intertwined with our affection for GDUFS.

Cajuput.

I remember that when I first walked into GDUFS, the trees at both sides of the road immediately caught my eyes. The towering trees form a boulevard, which is appealing.

Among all those trees, there is a kind of tree called Cajuput, which is known as the representative tree of GDUFS. The Cajuputs are arranged in sequence on the way from Teaching Building 2 to the library in our campus. For the sake of its tall and straight trunk, the Cajuput is called the General Tree, which spreads the spirits of trees to us.

For the old generations, the Cajuput is their indelible university memory. They thought of it as a symbol of the beauty and intelligence of the girls of GDUFS. The countless layers in the trunk remind us to learn the quality of Cajuput (白千层), which is the endless exploration for knowledge and the spirits of diligence.

The Cajuput not only owns its unique soul, but it is also a symbol of GDUFS’ soul. From the past to the present, day after day, the Cajuput stands still, witnessing our progress.
