[National Day] What is your plan?

China’s 67th birthday falls on October 1st, 2016. It seems that the God of Rain has worked arduously to cool down the fiery desire of the Chinese to celebrate this festive 7-day holiday. However, as long as the option of going home is accessible, no circumstances can be obstacles for Chinese people, especially for GDUFSers.

While quite a number of students chose to go home for a family reunion, still many remained, planning a full schedule for their golden week. MO Siman, a Senior 3 student from FELC (Faculty of English Literature and Culture), has shared some of her plans with me. “Study would be the main stream,” she said laughing. She was going to finish her homework, prepare for class presentations and some project work related to the association she had joined, and read some English novels that she had little time to enjoy previously. But in the latter part of the holiday, she planned to go back to Guangxi Province, her hometown. “I miss my little parrot. I don’t think it still remembers me since it’s been such a long time.” When asked what she would do when she wanted some relaxation, she pulled out an album which contained all the drawings she had created. “These paintings are the main source of my original wall papers”, she said proudly as she showed me her intriguing phone screen. I hope MO can have the fruitful holiday she has planned.

Another GDUFSer had a different plan. HE Wenfang, a Senior 3 from SEIB (School of English for International Business), was to show her friend around the North Campus and some distinguished sites in Guangzhou. “My friend feels like visiting Shamian Island (a place that is docarated in a Eureapean style) so I want to take her there.” Guangzhou is also renowned for its delicate cuisines, especially its “Zaocha”(brunch at a traditional Cantonese resturant), which HE wanted to take her friend to try. But talking of homework, she threw her head back laughing, “In order to fulfill the expectations from our great country, I will manage to finish my homework in the last two days.”

Apart from students, there are some stuff we cannot ignore. When the campus is taking a break by virture of this holiday, canteen staff still need to serve the remaining students. Mrs Tang has been working at GDUFS for almost five years. When asked what her plan was for the golden week, she told me that she just wanted to have a good rest. Usually, she and her colleagues need to start working from 6:30 AM everyday, and the continuous work has rendered her exausted. Relieved, she just need to work for the first three days and she can still have four days off to fully rest and spend time with her family.

At last, I wish everyone a cheerful and significant National Day holiday!
