“Study Abroad in Safety”

On May 21st , a training session named “Study Abroad in Safety” for students in southern China was held in Yunshan Hall on the GDUFS North Campus. Attendees included Vice President CHEN Linhan; Secretary of the Study Abroad Training Center ZHONG Luojun; Deputy Secretary LOU Yinhua; Assistant Dean YANG Wenhui and personnel going abroad.

The training session was presided over by Assistant Dean of the Study Abroad Training Center, WEI Huiliang who began the session by briefly introducing the training content. She pointed out that it was very important to enhance the security awareness of overseas students due to the unstable international situation, and that the training was designed to equip them with living skills for other countries.

Vice President CHEN Linhan gave a brief speech

Following thus, Vice President CHEN Linhan gave a brief speech in which he conveyed a warm welcome and sincere thanks to the attendance of students going abroad, and to the support from the scholars. He introduced that the training, based on instructions from the Ministry of Education, was arranged with several sessions according to different destination countries. The Study Abroad Training Center of GDUFS, as the organizer of the activity, has provided a variety of training courses including psychology, security as well as international etiquette for students in southern China to go abroad since its foundation. He said that this time, many relevant experts were also invited to pass on their knowledge to strengthen the understandings of students in terms of going abroad. Later, Vice President CHEN wished the activity would be a great success, and this was followed by a lecture concerning international etiquette, given by professor YANG Wenhui.

In Professor YANG’s lecture, she introduced the major principles, common problems and barriers in cross-cultural communication situations, so that students could get a general understanding of the cultural diversity. She emphasized the importance of respecting local customs according to the saying, “Do as the Romans do.” Professor YANG also provided people with solutions to all kinds of problems with her own experience.

After Professor YANG’s lecture, Professor LONG Zhuhua, an expert in law from the Faculty of Law, offered some suggestions for the present on issues related to overseas laws and regulations. He introduced some situations on the following five aspects: accommodation, traffic, privacy, intellectual property and risk. He mentioned that students must establish a new concept in which great importance should be attached to life and safety. And it would be helpful for them to make some friends working in law. In the end, Professor LONG sent his best wishes to those going abroad.

the security training 

At the end, the security training was performed by two drillmasters from Beijing Dulwich International Group who introduced some basic self-defense skills when getting into trouble such as a fire, robbery, bomb and so on. During this, some audience members were invited to perform on stage. The training had a cheerful atmosphere thanks to the humor of the two drillmasters.
