The 3rd Annual Forum Sino-Russian Economic Universities Union

On December 15th, the opening ceremony of the 3rd Annual Forum of Sino-Russian Economic Universities Union was held at GDUFS. ZHAO ZHongxiu, Vice President of the University of International Business and Economics; Yang Guang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Dongbei University of Finance and Economics; SUI Guangjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of GDUFS; XIN Baozhong, President of Harbin University of Commerce; ZHUO ZHi, President of Shangdong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE); Shubayeva Veronica Georgiyevna, Director of the Economics and Finance Department of Saint-Petersburg State University of Economics, attended the annual meeting. It was held by FANG Fanquan, Vice President of GDUFS.

 

SUI Guangjun delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. He said that GDUFS had always played an active part in promoting cooperation of universities. He introduced the history of cooperation between GDUFS and Russian universities. In addition, he hoped that GDUFS could make a contribution to social and cultural communications between Russia and China.

Shubayeva Veronica Georgiyevna stated it was possible to establish new cooperative relationships. She attached great importance to technology and education, and encouraged universities to cooperate with other members.

ZHAO ZHongxiu firstly congratulated the success the association had achieved and the 50th anniversary of GDUFS. He introduced the establishment of the University of International Business and Economics. He said it provided a communication platform for economic professionals from Russia and China. He hoped Sino-Russian Economic Universities Union could gain more and more success.

In the afternoon, delegates from Russia and China held separate meetings. They discussed how to play a role within the Union. And they also shared views about what the members should do in the future.

 

The host said that the aim of this annual forum was to strengthen the strategic partnership between China and Russia, as well as to promote the communication between the people of the two counties.

ZHAO ZHongxiu put forward six points which should have much attention paid to. These points are cultivating the talents who could speak three languages: Chinese, Russian, English; promoting the communication of the students from two countries; advancing the exchange of the teachers; strengthening the scientific research and cooperation; providing social service; attaching great importance to the building of the Union itself.

 

XIN Baozhong advised that the Union could establish a summer school instead of a summer camp. And he emphasized that the union should try to increase the number of students studying Russian.

WANG Jianbo, Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange of SDUFE, added that our country should also do something to encourage students to study Russian.

XU Fang, Vice President of Capital University of Economics, said that the Union could arrange some internship programs between the two countries.

As the discussion went on, other participants also gave their valuable opinions which include assigning different projects to different member universities according to members’ advantages; establishing a research institution; calling for some professional papers; developing different themes for the forum every year; getting some supports from the entrepreneur.

 

During several meetings, delegates talked about the achievements the Union made; they also summed up the experiences the Union had this year, and they reached some general agreements and put forward some new ideas about the development of the Union in the future.

 

In the evening, the closing ceremony was held by FANG Fanquan in the International Conference Hall.

 

ZHONG Weihe, President of GDUFS, said that China and Russia were friendly close neighbors and important partners. And the two countries shared the same views and positions on some major international issues. He also asserted that the two countries obtained considerable development in some fields, such as education, politics and economics. He said that there were more than 25 000 Chinese students in Russia, and Russian students in China were over 15 000. He said that both sides would try to increase the total to 100 000 in the coming years.

ZHONG stated that the Sino-Russian Economic Universities Union had played an important role in the education cooperation between China and Russia since its establishment two years ago. And it had conducted a number of activities to strengthen the communication of the scholars from both sides, to encourage the student exchange program, as well as to develop cooperation on some scientific research. All of these had a positive effect on enhancing friendship and understanding of people, especially the young, in the two countries. ZHONG admitted that there was still a long way to go for the Union, and he expressed his best wishes to it.

 

At last, Catochikov Victor Mikhailovich, Vice President of South Ural State University, said that they felt honored to host the next annual forum. Besides, he also gave some suggestions about the Union, such as creating a website of the Union, holding some seminars before the next forum.
