FCLC 10th Anniversary Shined with Drama The Family

On October 31st, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture (FCLC) was held in the basement of the library. In the afternoon, The Family+, a drama directed and performed by GDUFS students was shown at Yunshan Hall. Vice President, LIU Jianda; Dean of FCLC, WU Fangfei; Party Secretary of FCLC, FAN Jingjing; faculty members of FCLC and retired staff attended the anniversary.

Vice President LIU Jianda extended heartfelt greetings to the guests and gave a speech. He emphasized the importance of FCLC’s cultivation of excellent students with creativity and international horizons. The Dean of FCLC expressed his gratitude to all the staff that had made contributions to the faculty. He introduced the history of FCLC and praised the academic fruits FCLC had gained. To award the retired staff who had contributed to the development of FCLC, directors of FCLC sent flowers and souvenirs to the over-70-year-old teachers.

In the afternoon, drama The Family+ was performed at Yunshan Hall. Teachers and alumni of FCLC were invited to watch the drama.

The drama was an adaption of CAO Yu’s script and BA Jin’s novel of the same name. It mainly tells the tragic love stories of two young couples, criticizing the disadvantages of their feudal families and conventional Chinese marriage. The drama also sang high praise of young people’s courage of pursuing their true love and happiness. The excellent performance of the actors and actresses, the delicate and melancholic background music and the elegant layout of the stage made up a splendid cultural feast for the audience.

The drama featured the soliloquy, which indicated the inner feelings of the characters. Juexin soliloquized his responsibility of being the eldest son of the family and that he couldn’t make a choice for his marriage; Juehui soliloquized his care for his brother, his hatred for the family and his love for Mingfeng; the maid Mingfeng soliloquized her tragic fate and her helpless struggle against the feudality…

After the performance, our reporters interviewed the director LIN Shujing. “We tried to show our reality through the performance, and that made us different.” She said. “The script has been revised a lot of times since April.” It is said that the preparation for the drama had lasted for eight months. Based on the original version, the crew adapted the story bravely, which made it the focus of teachers and students. The drama abandoned the traditional narration and took another unique perspective to tell the story, making it even more vivid and interesting.
