On December 29, 2008, Guangdong Finance and Economics College was taken over by GDUFS, and School of Finance of GDUFS was set up.

The 28-year history of the Guangdong Finance and Economics College is generally thought to include three stages. At first, in April of 1980, the Guangzhou Finance, Economics and Accounting Technical Night School was founded. In January of 1982, the Guangzhou Finance, Economics and Accounting Technical Night School, the Guangzhou Amateur Finance and Economics College and the Guangzhou Amateur Accounting Technical College were amalgamated into one college, and that was, the Guangdong Amateur Finance and Economics College. In 1993, it was renamed The Guangdong Finance and Economics College for Adults, offering financial and economic specialties including finance and accounting and mainly engaging in junior college-level education and training for adults. Then, in April of 1996, the Guangdong Finance and Taxation Higher Technical College was established under approval, and the Guangdong Finance and Economics College for Adults was incorporated into it. The college was under the direction of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Finance and its teaching and administration was in the hands of the Guangdong Provincial Education Office. At the same time, it started using the new campus situated in the northern foot of Baiyun Mountain in Guangzhou and near GDUFS. It also began to recruit students for college entrance examinations of each current year as well as to continue to promote adults education and training for degrees. And, lastly, in July of 2001, under the approval of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Government, the Guangdong Finance and Taxation Higher Technical College was renamed Guangdong Finance and Economics College. In 2003, the college started its second-stage of construction, which improved its facilities, adding such things as the swimming pool, students’ dormitories and office buildings. By 2008, it had set up 17 finance and economics specialties in 7 teaching schools with more than 3,400 full-time students and about 180 staff members.

Over the past 28 years of its history, the Guangdong Finance and Economics College has made remarkable progress with efforts from all aspects so that it has enjoyed a high reputation of strong educational quality. For students of the college entrance examination, it is one of the most popular colleges with over 5,000 students applying for it as their first choice annually. This is five times more than its planned enrollment. Besides, the lowest mark criterion of this college is close to the second level of second-rank colleges in China. The employment level of its graduates is favorable, which provides a large group of professional talent for Guangdong’s social and economic development.

The transfer of the Guangdong Finance and Economics College to GDUFS is a win-win result. On the one hand, GDUFS expands its school space and teaching facilities with an increase of over 120 mu (about 0.8004 million square meters) and an area of about 50 thousand square meters of teaching facilities. The gym and swimming pool of Guangdong Finance and Economics College have especially enriched facilities of the GDUFS north campus. Moreover, when transferred to GDUFS, the college had a net asset of RMB 225 million with no debts. On the other hand, after the transfer, the schools-running level of the college was improved, and the development potential of the college has been given better play, all of which leads the college to new levels of development.

The transfer of the Guangdong Finance and Economics College to GDUFS has added a new and colorful chapter to the developmental history of GDUFS.
