International Symposium of Canada Held in GDUFS: Resemble High Standard Academy and Friendship

The 15th Sino-Canada Academy Conference and International Symposium were held in GDUFS and lasted from 21st to 22nd of September. Lady Sarah Taylor, Minister of Canadian Embassy to China; Sir Weldon Epp, Consul-General of Canadian Consulate in Guangzhou ; Sir Gary Glen Mar, Canadian Delegate of Province of Alberta to Asia; Mrs. Yang Lingxia, President of Association for Canadian Studies in China, together with other experts and scholars, have attended this conference and discussed on the topic of 揅anadian`s domestic and foreign changes after financial crisis? President of GDUFS and Director of GDUFS CSS Mr. Zhong Weihe, Vice President Mr. Fang Fanquan and Mr. Gu Yeli have also attended the conference. Deputy Director of GDUFS CSS Mr. Tang Xiaosong host the opening ceremony of Sino-Canada Academy Conference and International Symposium.

During the conference, President Zhong said in his speech that as one of the Chinese institutions which first started up Canadian studies, GDUFS was suitable to held this conference. Besides stating this conference as a chance for academic communication, President Zhong also expected this to be a chance for friendship enhancement. What`s more, he analyzed the underlying influence to world economy which brought up by financial crisis, and expounded the opportunities and challenges that China and Canada were encountering in a brand new international status.

Mrs. Yang Lingxia, President of Association for Canadian Studies in China, later presented her report on the achievement of last year. She expressed her satisfaction on last year`s research achievement as the number of thesis and essays related to Canadian studies had climbed to a new height. On the other hand, she also revealed her anxiety on Chinese Canadian studies, of which the scale and achievement was still being much small and inconspicuous in China.

Lady Sarah Taylor, Minister of Canadian Embassy to China, showed her confidence in Chinese Canadian studies. She stated that the communication between two countries was based on the interest which was aroused from one`s affection to the other`s culture. After that, international scholar Kim Richard Nossal praised Guangzhou in his talk on his travel experience in this loveable city and showed sincere thanks to GDUFS for this successful conference.
After conference break, Charles Burton from Faculty of Social Sciences of Brock University in Canada said that the developing understanding of Canada in China would benefit China`s further reform.

Moreover, Associate Professor Michael Kilburn from Endicott College appealed that win-win policy would be possible in Sino-Canada cooperation.

Also, Director Chintamani Mahapatra from Center for Canada, US and Latin American Studies of Jawaharlal Nehru University thought that the immigrant culture in Canada would help the multicultural development in this society.

After speech part, the symposium was divided into three periods, each led to different issues and topics. The deep discussions covered various fields in education, literature, culture, history, politics and policies, social issues, laws of Canada and they received fruitful conclusions and satisfied results.
After two days of symposium, the conference came to an end as Mrs. Yang Lingxia host the closing ceremony. In the ceremony, six Canadian Chinese writers presented the latest works in several related fields and Vice President of GDUFS Fang Fanquan accepted the gifts and showed sincere thanks. During the closing speech, Mrs. Yang said highly of this conference arranged by GDUFS.
It is also reported that the election of new executive committee of Association for Canadian Studies in China was promoted in GDUFS CSS meeting room at the night of September 20th.
