The Provincial Governor Witnessed the Signing of the Agreement Between GDUFS and Russia Friendly Schools

From September 23rd to October 2nd, GDUFS President Zhong Weihe visited three Russian Universities on the invitations of Russian Ural Federal University (UrFU), Moscow State Linguistic University (MSLU), and Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies. President Zhong was accompanied by a delegation. The delegation included: Jiao Fangtai, Chief of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Center; Chen Yanhui, Dean of the Faculty of Chinese Language and Culture; Liang Xuehong, Dean of the Institute for International Education; Yangke, Assistant Dean of the faculty of Western Language and Culture; and Quan Yonggen, Assistant Dean of the faculty of Oriental Language and Culture.

On September 24th, Zhu Xiaodan, Governor of Guangdong Province, who was then visiting Ekaterinburg, came to UrFU. Victor Koksharov, President of UrFU, together with President Zhong, met Governor Zhu and his delegation which included: Tanghao, Secretary-General of the Provincial Government; Fulang, Dean of the office of Foreign Affairs of Guangdong Province; Li Chunhong, Dean of the Provincial Development and Reform Commission; Wen Guohui, Dean of the State Assets Administration Committee of Guangdong Province; Guo Yuanqiang, Dean of the Foreign Economic and Trade Office of Guangdong Province.

 

President Koksharov and President Zhong introduced the cooperation between the two schools to Governor Zhu, and they invited Governor Zhu to witness the signing of the new cooperation agreement. Governor Zhu and other leaders stood witness as President Zhong and President Koksharov signed the agreement.

Governor Zhu congratulated the two universities on the establishment of their cooperation. He also shared his hope that more colleges and universities from China will cooperate with Russian schools such as UrFU. He pointed out that the signing of the research cooperation agreement between the two schools was very important and signifies a new phase of cooperation between them. Later on, Governor Zhu enjoyed a show put on by members of the Confucius Institute in UrFU and took a group photo with the Dean of the Confucius Institute, Chinese teachers as well as the students.

On the same day, President Zhong and President Koksharov had several work talks. They both agreed that more cooperation should be established between the two schools with the platform of Confucius Institutes. President Zhong, together with Li Shuo, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute, and Maxim Khomyakov, Vice President of UrFU, attended the work talks at the Confucius Institute. They negotiated and worked out solutions to such problems as development plans, funds utilization and the program development of the Confucius Institute.

On Sep. 27th, the delegation led by President Zhong visited MSLU. They had a meeting with MSLU Vice President Sukharev. Vice President Sukharev conveyed greetings to President Zhong from Irina Khaleeva, President of MSLU. He mentioned that the cooperation between the two schools had endured the test of time and achieved some good results, and he anticipates a broader cooperation in the near future. President Zhong also approved of the cooperation which has been established. He suggested that deeper cooperation be established between the two universities on the programs concerning students, teachers and research. Afterwards, the two parties negotiated the details of the cooperation issues.

On the morning of Oct. 1st, the delegation led by President Zhong visited Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies. The President and Vice President of the university extended a warm welcome to them. They introduced the developmental process, characteristics of school logistics, and the current goals of their school. They also shared their wishes of establishing an international university. President Zhong held that the signing of the cooperation agreement between GDUFS and Pyongyang University of Foreign Studies was a landmark because it was the first agreement signed by GDUFS with colleges and universities in North Korea. He hoped that further cooperation will be established between the two universities and he also anticipates that the leaders of the school will visit GDUFS.

On the afternoon of Oct. 1st, President Zhong paid a visit to Liu Hongcai, the Ambassador of China who resided in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. President Zhong introduced the developmental goals, developmental strategies and the achievements of GDUFS over the past few years to Ambassador Liu. He also expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Liu for his concern and support of the cooperation agreements between GDUFS and the colleges and universities in North Korea. Ambassador Liu was quiet happy with the development of GDUFS and he offered his best wishes to GDUFS.

During his visits in Russia and North Korea, President Zhong had a special meeting with the GDUFS students who were studying at Moscow State Linguistic University and North Korea Kim Hyong Jik Normal University. He was concerned about their studies and lives there. He encouraged them to cherish their opportunity to learn abroad. "Read ten thousand books, travel ten thousand miles", he said. He also encouraged them to study hard and communicate more with the local people.
