Introduction to Four Confucius Institutes of GDUFS

1. The Confucius Institute at the University of Sapporo, Japan

 The Confucius Institute at the University of Sapporo, founded in November，2006 by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Sapporo University, becomes the fifth Confucius Institute in Japan and the only one in Hokkaido. With the support of the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban) and Hokkaido and Sapporo municipal government, the Confucius Institute in Sapporo has become the center of Chinese language and culture in Hokkaido. Year 2016 witnessed the 10^th anniversary of the Confucius Institute at the University of Sapporo.

    2. The Confucius Institute at the Catholic University of Santa Maria, Peru

The Confucius Institute at the Catholic University of Santa Maria is one of the earliest Confucius Institutes in Peru. It is a Chinese Language and Culture Institute co-founded by the Confucius Institute Headquarters (Hanban), Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and the Catholic University of Santa Maria. On September 10, 2009, the Confucius Institute at the Catholic University of Santa Maria, Arequipa, Peru, held an unveiling ceremony.

The Confucius Institute regularly organizes many large-scale cultural events every year. Among them are some Chinese traditional festival events, competitions, exhibitions and performance related to Chinese language and culture, such as Chinese song contest, Chinese calligraphy competition, Chinese calligraphy and painting exhibition, and professional performance group from mainland China.

 3. The Confucius Institute at Cape Verde University, Cape Verde

Founded on December 18, 2015 by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and University of Cape Verde, the Confucius Institute at Cape Verde University has opened many courses related to Chinese language and culture and has organized a great deal of cultural activities. It also accepted different kinds of media coverage or interview up to 70 times. On May 9, 2017, after seven months of unremitting efforts, the Confucius Institute and the Ministry of Education of Cape Verde signed a cooperation agreement on the full implementation of Chinese teaching in the Buddhist Middle School, which marked the beginning of Chinese teaching in Cape Verde into the national system of education.  

4. The Confucius Institute at Ural State University, Russia

 On October 28, 2008，the first Confucius Institute in Ural region and the 16^th in Russia--- the Confucius Institute at Ural State University was co-founded by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Ural State University. It has opened courses related to Chinese language and culture，such as Chinese language teaching, Chinese calligraphy and tai chi. In addition, the Confucius Institute at the Federal University of Ural also organizes various Chinese-Russian cultural parties, seminars and other events from time to time.
