On the afternoon of October 10, Kang Sangwook, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Guangzhou, and his delegation visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Highlight from the Meeting

During the meeting, Yan gave the guests a detailed overview of the university’s achievements in education, internationalization, and cooperation with South Korean universities. He noted that GDUFS serves as a key base for cultivating international talents. As a university featuring the widest range of foreign language programs and a strong international orientation, it has established partnerships with 518 universities and institutions worldwide, including over 30 in South Korea. The Korean language program was launched in 2003 and was listed as a national first-class undergraduate program in 2019. President Yan expressed hope that this meeting would serve as an opportunity to promote substantial progress in cultural exchanges, faculty and student visits, and academic cooperation with South Korean universities. He also expressed confidence that the Consulate General would serve as a bridge in fostering partnerships between the university and top universities in South Korea, helping both sides nurture high-caliber professionals proficient in the Chinese and Korean languages and deeply familiar with both cultures, thus pouring more energy into China–South Korea educational and cultural exchanges.

Consul General Kang Sangwook commended GDUFS for its achievements in cultivating outstanding Korean language talents and developing its Korean studies programs, as well as for the active participation of GDUFS faculty and students in Consulate events. He also praised the positive role of the Campus Asia program in promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation between South Korea and China. Kang noted that GDUFS holds a key position in China-South Korea cultural exchange in South China, and that the Korean language program provides strong support for talent development and mutual cultural understanding. The Consulate General said he will continue to support GDUFS in expanding cooperation with South Korean universities. In addition, he introduced the MIKTA festival of Food & Tourism, expressing hope that the joint organization of the festival will further promote China-South Korea cultural, tourism, and economic collaboration.
