Recently, the Consul General of Mexico in Guangzhou, Mr. Julián Adem Díaz de León, and his delegation visited Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin received the guests at the VIP Hall of the Administration Building on Baiyun Mountain Campus. Both sides swapped views on cultural exchange and talent cultivation.
President Yan Xiangbin warmly welcomed Mr. Adem and his delegation and provided a comprehensive introduction to GDUFS’s history, characteristics, achievements in Spanish language education, and its collaborative efforts with Mexican universities. He mentioned that China and Mexico have enjoyed long-standing friendly relations, and as the university in South China offering the most foreign languages, GDUFS has been committed to nurturing talent with a global perspective, with considerable potential for enhancing Sino-Mexican economic and trade cooperation. Established since GDUFS’s founding, Spanish major has seen significant achievements in talent nurturing, language teaching, curriculum development, and international exchange. President Yan emphasized that GDUFS has established cooperative relationships with multiple universities in Mexico and Latin America and looks forward to deepening cooperation with more Mexican universities and research institutions. He expressed hope that both sides can strengthen collaboration in talent development, scientific research, and academic exchange, fostering closer cultural, social, and economic exchanges between China and Mexico, and contributing to strengthening bilateral relations.

Mr. Adem highly praised GDUFS’s excellence in foreign language education, particularly the outstanding development of the Spanish program. He viewed this meeting as a new opportunity for cooperation between Mexican and Chinese universities, which will help facilitate further exchange and collaboration with Mexican universities. He expressed hope to promote cooperation between GDUFS and more Mexican universities in areas such as student exchanges, faculty visits, and scientific research, jointly contributing to the vibrant development of Sino-Mexican educational ties and laying a solid foundation for economic cooperation and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Personnel from the the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Faculty of European Languages and Cultures, and other relevant departments participated in the meeting. On the same day, Mr. Adem gave a lecture on Mexican culture for the students and faculty of the Faculty of European Languages and Cultures.
