Delegation Led by Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Guangzhou Visits GDUFS

On the morning of June 18, Sultanbek Imamov, Consul General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Guangzhou, and his delegation paid a visit to Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). President Yan Xiangbin met with the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides held in-depth exchanges on topics including China-Uzbekistan educational and cultural exchanges, inter-university cooperation, joint scientific research, and cultivation of international students.

Highlight from the Meeting

Yan extended a warm welcome to the delegation, and gave a detailed introduction to GDUFS’s educational characteristics and achievements in internationalization. He noted that GDUFS serves as a key base in South China for international talent cultivation, foreign language and literature, global governance, foreign-related rule of law, and the international communication of Chinese culture. Currently, the university has around 27,000 students, including 11 international students from Uzbekistan. GDUFS ranks among the top in the world in disciplines such as linguistics, arts and humanities, and finance, and has long maintained friendly exchanges and cooperation with universities across the globe. He stated that China and Uzbekistan have developed into an all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership for a new era, with increasingly close bilateral exchanges in economy and trade, transportation, and people-to-people exchanges. In April 2026, GDUFS established the Center for Central Asian Studies, which focuses on economic and trade cooperation between Guangdong and the five Central Asian countries, with research priorities on trade structure, key areas of cooperation, industrial complementarities, and development potential. He expressed the hope that this could serve as an entry point and a growth driver for bilateral cooperation. He looked forward to taking this meeting as an opportunity to promote the establishment of cooperative ties between GDUFS and universities in Uzbekistan, thereby facilitating exchanges and mutual learning among young people of the two countries.

Sultanbek Imamov expressed sincere gratitude for the warm reception, and spoke highly of the university’s outstanding achievements in foreign language education and internationalized education. He pointed out that universities in Uzbekistan attach great importance to establishing cooperative relations with GDUFS. He stated that the two sides have enormous potential for cooperation, and can engage in practical cooperation in areas such as two-way mobility of faculty and students, joint scientific research, hosting of high-level international academic conferences, and joint training programs. He expressed the hope to actively promote the establishment of a platform for the teaching and research of the Uzbek language at GDUFS, and welcomed the university to build a Chinese language and culture center in Uzbekistan, so as to take language and cultural exchanges as a bond to further consolidate the public foundation for cultural cooperation between the two countries.
