Delegation Led by Director of the Office of the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea Visits GDUFS

On the morning of June 10, Lahui Ako, Director of the Office of the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea and senior APEC consultant, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS). Vice President Shen Minghao welcomed the guests in the VIP Hall of the Administration Building of the Baiyun Mountain Campus. The two sides exchanged views on topics including inter-university cooperation, the cultivation of international students, think tank research, and regional exchange activities.

Highlight from the Meeting

Shen extended a warm welcome to Lahui Ako and his delegation, and introduced the university’s overall accomplishments in internationalized education as well as its long-standing foundation of cooperation with Pacific island countries. He pointed out that the university leverages its strengths in language, academic disciplines, and geographical location to continuously advance international exchanges and cooperation. It maintains close ties with Papua New Guinea in multiple areas, including personnel training, academic seminars, and inter-university exchanges. The solid foundation of cooperation between both sides has yielded substantial fruits. He hoped that, following this visit, both sides would further expand and deepen practical cooperation in aspects such as mutual faculty and student exchanges, joint education programs, and collaborative think tank research. This will continue to consolidate the foundation of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries and promote their friendship.

Lahui Ako thanked GDUFS for its warm reception and highly commended the university for its active role in promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Pacific island countries. He noted that Papua New Guinea has always cherished its traditional friendship with China and remains committed to promoting friendly exchanges between the two countries across all sectors. Meanwhile, he stressed that Papua New Guinea is currently advancing the preparations for APEC and thus has an urgent need for international talent and specialized public officials. He hoped that, based on their existing cooperation, both sides would take steps to carry out programs such as the cultivation of international students and the training of public officials, jointly deepening inter-university cooperation and contributing to the sound development of China-Papua New Guinea relations.
