Delegation Led by Consul General of Russia in Guangzhou Visits GDUFS

On the afternoon of June 5, H.E. Yury Teplov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou, led a delegation to visit Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS) and attended the university’s “Russian Language Day” event. President Yan Xiangbin met with the guests at the VIP Hall of the Administration Building on the Baiyun Mountain Campus, and the two sides held discussions on topics such as educational cooperation and cultural communication.

Highlight from the Meeting

Yan extended a warm welcome to Teplov on his first visit and elaborated on the university’s distinctive internationalized education and its fruitful achievements. He noted that GDUFS has established cooperation with more than 500 universities and institutions across 70 countries and regions. The university also maintains long-term close partnerships with over 20 Russian higher education institutions and runs a Confucius Institute in collaboration with Ural Federal University. He mentioned that in terms of discipline development, Linguistics at GDUFS ranks between 101st and 150th in the QS World University Rankings by Subject; Arts & Humanities stands 165th globally in the U.S. News Best Global Universities Rankings; Finance is ranked among the world’s top 200. Four disciplines, including Engineering, Environment and Ecology, have been listed among the world’s top 1% in ESI rankings. He highlighted that the Russian language program at GDUFS has been recognized as a national first-class undergraduate program, and the university is committed to building an interdisciplinary talent cultivation system. He also expressed the hope that this visit would serve as a new opportunity to further expand in-depth cooperation with Russian universities and institutions across various fields, making a greater contribution to China-Russia economic and trade development, educational collaboration, people-to-people exchanges, and scientific and technological innovation.

Teplov thanked GDUFS for its warm reception and spoke highly of the university’s contributions to China-Russia educational cooperation and cultural exchanges. He pointed out that 2026-2027 has been designated the China-Russia Years of Education. In May this year, the heads of state of China and Russia jointly attended the opening ceremony of the China-Russia Years of Education, opening up major new opportunities for bilateral educational collaboration. He hoped to leverage the China-Russia Years of Education to encourage more Russian faculty and students to come to GDUFS for exchange and study. He also stressed that the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Guangzhou will earnestly implement the diplomatic outcomes reached by the two heads of state, encourage more Russian universities and institutions to carry out multi-field and multi-level cooperation with GDUFS, and jointly advance deeper China-Russia economic and trade ties, cultural exchanges, and scientific and technological collaboration.
