Past as the Spring Festival of 2018 is, the festive atmosphere is still strong with the coming of the Lantern Festival. In Guangzhou, an event called Yuexiu Temple Fair is held annually on the 15th of the first lunar month. This year it will be held around Beijing Road Culture Hexin Unit from March 2nd to 8th – a week from the Lantern Festival.
Citizens praying for blessings
Classic activities of Yuexiu Temple Fair this year remain the same. Apart from blessings, photo exhibitions, calligraphy and painting exhibitions, riddles and other activities, some new items like charity festivals, youth comedy and air temple fairs are added to the program of the temple fair. What deserves our attention is the opening performances, non-heritage exhibitions, folk culture tours and other activities all have the elements from both northern and southern cultures. Different cultures blend and collide with each other, which embodies the inclusiveness, opening and diversification of Cantonese culture.
During this week, the Youth Festival of Comedy will showcase comic art at the following five places: atrium square in the metro station Gongyuanqian; KFC in Guangming Square; Yuehai Yangzhonghui; United Bookstore in Beijing Road; Yaozhou Relic Site. The shows performed on the streets will be brisk and short so that citizens can enjoy the shows on their way. Also, from March 2nd to 7th every day at 7:30 pm, there will be quality movies waiting for you outdoors. What’s more, on March 4th the Eighth Guangfu Temple Folk Culture Tour will bring the audience an interactive traditional fashion show in Guangdong People's Stadium. Finally, if you are fond of anime, then the Anime Temple Fair held in Oriental Wenda Plaza will probably be your first choice.
Amazing performance: Lion Dance
Aside from those tremendous performances and activities, you shouldn’t miss out on the delicious food with Cantonese characteristics. In Chenghuang Temple Zhongyou Square, there will be a food festival with the theme of Inheritance of Flavors aiming to highlight the food culture in Guangzhou. You can not only satisfy your appetite with tasty food, but also hear those stories behind the dishes here.
