Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street

The first station of the trip is Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street - one of the busiest street in Guangzhou. It's quite convenient to reach there. You can take the subway Line 2 and get off at the Changshou Road Station.

There are various stores on the street, among which the nosheries and the restaurants are strongly recommended. Yinji (its signboard is silvery-painted with gold words on it) , a noshery selling rice noodle rolls, is worth visiting. The rice noodle roll is a kind of food with Guangzhou characteristics. It gains popularity with its taste and cheap price. Different kinds of rice noodle rolls like barbecued pork rice rolls and steamed shrimp rolls are available. Besides, Tao Tao Ju Restaurant is also a good choice, where Cantonese have their morning tea (called Yumcha in Cantonese) . You can enjoy the traditional dim-sums like shrimp dumplings and the unique atmosphere there. In addition, the deserts in Shunji and Nanxin are also delicious.

Walking along the street, you can see many statues which show the lives of the people in Guangzhou in the past. Many visitors like taking photos with the statues. Keep walking, some of Liwan's Qilou Buildings (Arcade in Guangzhou) can be seen, which is a kind of building combing both eastern and western characteristics.

Lychee Bay

The next station is Lychee Bay. It's said that the Liwan District got its name because of Lychee Bay. You can take a No. 205 bus and get off at the Pantang Station (the station near a pond) to reach there.

Many visitors are impressed by the beautiful view of Lychee Bay. The clear river flows slowly, mirroring the blue sky. There are many traditional buildings on both sides of the river. You can even row on the river if you want.

Roaming around, you may catch sight of a stage where people perform Cantonese Opera. Cantonese Opera originated in the Ming Dynasty. Formerly, the music of Cantonese Opera was identical to the older operatic types, but since the beginning of this century it has become a blend of conventional patterns and fragments from Cantonese folk melodies, popular songs, modern Cantonese instrumental compositions and even Western tunes. Therefore, it's worthwhile to come and enjoy Cantonese Opera.
