SUI gave a detailed introduction of the university’s historical evolution and current development, which included the major features, the educational concept, foreign exchange and cooperation, employment status, scientific research, and the construction of Portuguese major of GDUFS. He expressed that with the promotion of One Belt One Road programme, the relationship between China and Portugal is getting closer and the communications in economy, education, culture between the two countries are more frequent. Currently, Portuguese talent is in a shortage and China-Portugal communication is in great need of talents who have not only mastered Chinese and Portuguese, but also have a thorough understanding of both sides’culture. Cultivating Portuguese talents for international communication was the original reason for GDUFS to set up the Portuguese major.

SUI also expressed his wish that the Consulate would offer support to GDUFS in connection building, student communication, teacher exchange, and cooperation in scientific research with Portuguese universities and institutions. Meanwhile, he sincerely invited Portuguese experts and scholars to attend the large-scale forums hosted by GDUFS annually, such as the International Think Tank Forum of the Maritime Silk Road.

Consul General André conveyed his gratitude to GDUFS, for it supported the work of the Consulate General. He expressed that few people spoke Chinese in Portugal, but he hoped that more Portuguese could come to China and learn Chinese. During the conversation, he also mentioned that the One Belt One Road programme and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay area construction have a great strategic significance to China-Portugal collaboration, hoping that the two sides would have more extensive and in-depth cooperation in economics and academia.

CAI Hong, Chief of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange; YANG Ke, Dean of Faculty of European Languages and Cultures, and leaders of School of Business, also attended the meeting.
